Happy 2018! Paws, Projects, and Python! / by Russell Wong

Creating the first blog post for a website almost a year after its launched isn't terribly late, it just means I have more to catch up on. I'm going to resist every urge to start this blog from the beginning, so let's just begin from the last big event: I adopted a dog!

In case you don't follow my Instagram account (and now is your chance to follow @r.k.wong), I adopted Mouse, a 3 year-old, pitbull-terrier mix, from the local animal shelter in early Decemeber. I didn't adopt him immediately. It took a few harmless visits to the shelter with my roommate, and a very long couple weeks to think it all over. But it all paid off. He cuddles, plays, destroys every toy he's gotten, only poops outside, and is a patient model (proof on Instagram). Truly a dream come true.

In December, I also started a new project: a program that delegates chores and emails the recipients. It's not the most complex project or interesting, but it is my first dive into Python project and my first programming project in a very long time (something like 2 years). So far learning the quirks of the Python isn't too bad, I just need to learn to embrace doing everything in one line without semicolons. And when I finish the first commit, I'll get to upload my first github project!

Feels like a lot of firsts going on and I'm going to make sure they second and thirds follow shortly behind! Except for dogs. Mouse is going to stay the first and only for a while.
